Banco de Alimentos Cáritas in Cancún Mexico hosts GFN Board of Directors
11 February 2013 José Ángel Romero of Banco de Alimentos Cáritas in Cancún, Mexico appeared on the television program "Cafecito" in advance of the GFN Board of Directors meeting February 11-13. In the interview he speaks about the role food banks play in the fight against hunger locally in Cancún, nationally through the work of Asociación Mexicana de Bancos de Alimentos (AMBA), and GFN's mission to develop and support food banks around the world.

Reduce food waste dramatically with simple acts, says UN

Requesting smaller portions at restaurants, freezing leftovers and donating to food banks can help make a difference, says the UN-led Think, Eat, Save: Reduce Your Foodprint campaign, while retailers and supermarkets should be carrying out audits and working more closely with their suppliers to reduce waste.

Bulgarian Food Bank has saved 120 tons of products for 6 months

In half a year, the Bulgarian Food Bank has saved 120 tons of products and redistributed them to 5,000 people in need. They also identified the fact that donors are required to pay the VAT in order to donate products to the food bank as a barrier that prevents food retailers from donating product.

Leket Israel Celebrates Nine Years of Service for Israel's Needy
18 January 2013 GFN member Leket Israel hosted its annual gala dinner drawing some 600 guests including Dan Shapiro, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, and his wife, Julie Fischer. Ruth Rappaport of Geneva and Tel Aviv was honored with Leket Israel's True Friend Award for her ongoing support over the past five years.

Hitachi Raises €20,000 for European Federation of Food Banks
17 January 2013
Hitachi Europe Ltd. today announced it has raised €20,000 for the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA), a charity which brings together 247 food banks across Europe to fight against hunger and food waste. The money was raised by Hitachi Europe employees across Europe, who took part in a variety of activities to celebrate the companies 30th anniversary.

Egyptian Food Bank and the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt Participate in the Mega Project
15 January 2013
The Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) cooperated with the Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) to be part of the EFB's Mega Project. This cooperation had the BCFE providing a medical caravan for ladies to offer free clinical examinations, free mammograms and awareness lectures to teach women about breast health and early detection methods.

Foodbank Australia has partnered with GrainCorp with the aim of creating a Grain Bank as a source of supply for manufacturing key staple foods, to be distributed to the charities who provide food relief in times of hardship.
